DJ Master Class Course

16 Weeks Physical Class: The DJ Master Class is designed for students committed to becoming a working DJ Producer. The Program includes training in a variety of mixing, scratching, and music production techniques.

Curriculum consists of 16 Levels (details below). Master Class Program students meet once a week for a 2 hour class. Class sizes are small and contribute to a collaborative setting. Students keep the same day and time throughout the program to keep scheduling conflicts to a minimum.

Enrollment in the program starts with taking Level 1. If you already have some experience, we are happy to evaluate you and recommend the correct Level for entry into the program. All students completing the program will graduate with a certificate of completion.

Serato Software Overview and Training
This class will introduce the student to three different Serato programs and teach how to implement the software. Visit serato.com to download the software. You must complete this class before you advance to the next.
How To Use Your Headphones
This class will focus on use of the headphone and the duality of listening to music that is being currently played while selecting the next song to be played.
How To Count Bars
This class will introduce the concept of bar counting and give students an opportunity to try various exercises to count bars of 4.  This skill is a crucial to the art of deejaying. You must finish this class before you can advance to the next.
Understanding Beats Per Minute
This class will focus on a key element of deejaying, understanding beats per minute will allow the deejay to control timing of the song.
Hand Push Blend Technic
This class will train a student to use the tone wheel correctly in the hand push technique. This technique is commonly used by DJ’s as an alternate tool when mixing songs. Students must complete this video before advancing to the next lesson.
How To Release Music On The One Count
The class will demonstrate how to locate the one count in a song and how to use it as the release point in a transition. Students must complete this video before advancing to the next lesson. 
Mixing 2 Instrumentals Together
This class will show how to blend two instrumental songs. Students will be able to follow step-by- step directions to practice mixing songs. Students must complete this video before advancing to the next lesson.
Using And Understanding The Pitch Control
This class will examine the importance of pitch control and teach students the art of controlling song speed while mixing.
Understanding Song Structure
This class will emphasize on how to stagger your music list and not exhaust your music repertoire too early. You must complete this class before you can advance to the next.
Using Equalizers
This class will teach how to use equalizers to enhance your sound. 
Using Cue Points
This class will teach how to set up a predetermined cue point in any song.
Transitioning
This class will demonstrate how to do simple transitions using bar counting, the tone wheel and cue points. Students will do a transition exercise to become familiar with their controller elements needed to blend songs. Students must complete this video before advancing to the next lesson.
Beat Matching Music With Different Speeds
This class will introduce the concept of doubling the bpm and teaching how to beat match faster paced music with slower paced music.
Understanding And Setting Loops
This class will show how to set loops with different measures in a song. Students will learn techniques to incorporate loops in their blends. Students must complete this video before advancing to the next lesson.
Using Revolutions
This class will focus on how to count revolutions. The class will offer multiple exercises to master this fundamental.
Beat Juggling
This class will teach the technique of bringing the song back and forth.
Requirements

Prerequisites and Course-Specific Requirements 

Students should have a basic ability to create music productions, including a working knowledge of musical terms and concepts.

Software Requirements

  • Serato Pro
  • Logic Pro X (Logic Express is not supported in this course)
  • At least 40 GB storage space to install all optional Logic content (large content packages can be installed on separate disk)
  • OSX Snow Leopard Or Higher
  • Music Bible / Purchased At Registration

Hardware Requirements

  • MAC Or PC Computer
  • DJ Controller / Turntables
  • Headphones
  • 1, 2, or 3 TB Hardrive
